The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap by Paulette Mahurin

My review: Quite a view of bigotry in the 1890's that has lessons for us today. My own viewpoint of "live and let live" wouldn't have been very well tolerated back then. If you were gay you had to keep it quiet and not let anyone know. It didn't matter if you were the most giving person in the world and Mildred happens to help out just about anyone in the town.

My Son would have been one of those persecuted back then as he has openly stated that he is bisexual. That's something that's his decision on how he wants to live and I still accept him and love him. I'll say that this book has got me thinking which some books really are meant to do. This review copy will continue to be treasured for a long time.

Description: A women's Brokeback Mountain. The year was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; the United States expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in South America; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for gross indecency under Britain's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted the Wilde news. It is a chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing.
